This article offers guidance on how to prioritize your most important initiatives.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"et_pb_row_inner et_pb_row_inner_1\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_column et_pb_column_4_4 et_pb_column_inner et_pb_column_inner_1 et-last-child\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_module et_pb_text et_pb_text_1 et_pb_text_align_left et_pb_bg_layout_light\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\">\n<h2>Prioritize Your Service Initiatives<\/h2>\n<p>Prioritizing service initiatives is a necessary process to determine the order in which initiatives will be worked on and the level of resources committed.<\/p>\n<p>Prioritization does not imply that an initiative will or will not be done, simply that resources will be allocated in an order that yields the most benefit to the business.<\/p>\n<h2>Remove Bias<\/h2>\n<p>Prioritizing service initiatives is often subjective because different stakeholders will view projects and initiatives from their perspective, thus there is bias.<\/p>\n<p>Effective prioritization attempts to remove any bias introduced by narrowly focused objectives, and evaluates initiatives based on what really matters to the business.<\/p>\n<h2>Focus on What Matters Most<\/h2>\n<p>The first step in prioritization is deciding what matters most to the business in terms of expected impact and timeframe.<\/p>\n<h2>Evaluate Impact<\/h2>\n<p>The impact of an initiative should be quantifiable.\u00a0 If you cannot easily define the expected outcome from a service initiative, chances are that it is not more important than other activities competing for resources.\u00a0 To evaluate impact consider:<\/p>\n<table cellpadding=\"2px\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<p class=\"p-lead\"><strong>Impact Type<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td>How the initiative will impact the business.<\/td>\n<td>\n<h5><strong>Possible Impacts:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>New revenue<\/li>\n<li>Retention of current revenue<\/li>\n<li>Reduce churn<\/li>\n<li>Efficiency gains<\/li>\n<li>Cost reduction<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<p class=\"p-lead\"><strong>Magnitude<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td>What is the extent to which an initiative will impact the business<\/td>\n<td>Example: 10%<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<p class=\"p-lead\"><strong>Timeframe<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td>When expected benefits will be realized<\/td>\n<td>Example: Within 12 months<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Define the type and magnitude of expected impact(s) from an initiative.\u00a0 It is not enough to say that an initiative will reduce churn.\u00a0 Express the extent and timeframe that an initiative will yield the expected impact.<\/p>\n<p>How to express the Impact of an Initiative:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"callout-box callout-box--med-blue\">\n<p>By doing INITIATIVE A, we can reduce customer churn by 10% within 12 months<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Assess Dependencies<\/h2>\n<p>Prioritizing service initiatives by their expected level of business impact is ideal, yet the reality is that some initiatives will depend upon the completion of others.\u00a0 When you have completed your prioritization, you will need to evaluate if any priority initiatives have prerequisites \u2013 initiatives that must be completed before new, priority initiatives can occur.<\/p>\n<h2>Examine Consequences<\/h2>\n<p>Sometimes an initiative will not yield positive changes in performance or outcomes but is necessary to mitigate negative consequences of\u00a0<em>not<\/em>\u00a0doing something.\u00a0 Make certain to highlight the potential negative impact(s) of\u00a0<em>not<\/em>\u00a0allocating resources to an initiative.\u00a0 Consequences may include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Customer churn<\/li>\n<li>Employee attrition<\/li>\n<li>Lost revenue<\/li>\n<li>Increased costs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>How to express the Impact of an Initiative:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"callout-box callout-box--med-blue\">\n<p><em>If we do NOT do INITIATIVE A, we will lose 10% of our customers at the next renewal cycle.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Create Your Prioritized List<\/h2>\n<p>When you understand the potential impact from initiatives \u2013 both positive outcomes or negative consequences \u2013 it is possible to prioritize activities and allocate resources.\u00a0 Be certain to factor in time and resources to complete any prerequisite initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>Establish a prioritized list of initiatives with the order, types of resources to be allocated, expected outcomes, and timeframe for competition.
