{"id":253649,"date":"2024-03-15T18:01:49","date_gmt":"2024-03-15T22:01:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.servicexrg.com\/?p=253649"},"modified":"2026-01-09T16:23:15","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T21:23:15","slug":"primary-expected-outcomes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.servicexrg.com\/blog\/primary-expected-outcomes\/","title":{"rendered":"What is the primary expected outcome of your service organization?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p-lead\">Service teams are shifting their focus to the attainment of strategic outcomes.\u00a0 It is no longer enough to close cases, clear backlog or even settle for satisfied customers.\u00a0 Strategic service outcomes are defined by rates of adoption, time to value and ultimately revenue retention and growth.<\/p>\n<p>We asked service leaders with responsibility for both Support and Success functions to identify what they consider to be the primary expected outcome from their service teams.\u00a0 Our findings and analysis are below.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-253646\" src=\"https:\/\/www.servicexrg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Service-Expected-Outcome.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1653\" height=\"1150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.servicexrg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Service-Expected-Outcome.png 1653w, https:\/\/www.servicexrg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Service-Expected-Outcome-300x209.png 300w, https:\/\/www.servicexrg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Service-Expected-Outcome-1024x712.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.servicexrg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Service-Expected-Outcome-768x534.png 768w, https:\/\/www.servicexrg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Service-Expected-Outcome-1536x1069.png 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1653px) 100vw, 1653px\" \/><\/p>\n<h5>We asked: What is the primary expected outcome of your service organization?<\/h5>\n<p>Here are the choices we offered:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Support, answer customer questions when they need help.<\/li>\n<li>Satisfaction, provide service experiences to satisfy customers.<\/li>\n<li>Success, help customers adopt and successfully apply products.<\/li>\n<li>Retention, use services to retain existing relationships.<\/li>\n<li>Expansion, create opportunities to expand relationship value.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>The Primary Service Outcome<\/h4>\n<p>We realize that many service teams may have multiple functions and desired outcomes, however, we wanted service leaders to choose one \u2013 their primary outcome.<\/p>\n<p>While there is no right or wrong answer, these responses indicate the primary focus of service teams today.\u00a0 Some are focused on break-fix support, others are content to drive CSat scores.<\/p>\n<p>Resolving issues and satisfying customers is an important step in servicing customers, but it should not the ultimate objective of a service team.<\/p>\n<h4>Aspire to Do More<\/h4>\n<p>We observe that most companies look beyond issues resolution and satisfaction and aspire to drive adoption of products and to help customers be successful.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Adoption and success are great ways to help customers realize value, but is that even enough?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>For the majority of service leaders, they indicate that their primary outcome is focused on retaining and\/or expanding the value of existing relationships.<\/p>\n<h4>Service is a key enabler of retention and growth.<\/h4>\n<p>As you consider your objectives for Support and Customer Success consider your primary expected outcome.
